The National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN) is set to celebrate the achievements of 28,675 students during its 12th Convocation Ceremony on Saturday, March 25, 2023. With a blend of on-site and virtual events, the ceremony will take place across NOUN’s 108 study centres throughout the country. In addition to the conferral of degrees and awards, the ceremony will also feature a thought-provoking Convocation Lecture by Professor Puleng LenkaBula, the Principal and Vice-Chancellor of the University of South Africa (UNISA).

Graduates and Ceremony Details:

Of the 28,675 graduating students, 21,281 will receive undergraduate degrees from various faculties, while 7,394 students will be awarded postgraduate degrees. The Convocation Ceremony will commence at 9 a.m. and will be held simultaneously at the university’s numerous study centres.

Select first-class graduates, first-degree graduates in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), award winners, and those obtaining postgraduate diplomas, master’s degrees, and Ph.D.s will participate in an on-site ceremony at the University Headquarters in Jabi, Abuja. Other first-degree graduates will celebrate at their respective study centres in various state capitals.

The ceremony will include the awarding of bachelor degrees, postgraduate diplomas, master’s degrees, doctorates, and honorary doctorate degrees. Students unable to attend in person can join the virtual convocation site at 10 a.m.

Graduates are advised that their certificates will be available for collection from Monday, April 3 to Saturday, April 8, 2023, at their respective state capital study centres between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m.

Convocation Lecture by Prof. Puleng LenkaBula:

The highlight of the convocation ceremony will be the 12th Convocation Lecture, presented by Professor Puleng LenkaBula, the Principal and Vice-Chancellor of the University of South Africa (UNISA). Prof. LenkaBula will speak on the topic “Volatility and Opportunities in Higher Education.” She has been serving as UNISA’s Vice-Chancellor since January 2021 and is the first female to hold the position in the university’s 148-year history.

Prof. LenkaBula’s extensive experience in the field of higher education includes serving as Deputy Vice-Chancellor at the University of the Free State and holding various roles at the University of Witwatersrand, Johannesburg. Her lecture is scheduled for Friday, March 24, 2023, at 10 a.m. at the Convocation Arena, University Headquarters, Jabi, Abuja, and will be streamed live online.
