National Examination Council (NECO) GCE Results Statistics

The National Examinations Council announced the publication of the November/December 2022 Senior School Certificate Examination results on Thursday.

Prof Dantani Ibrahim Wushishi, Registrar of NECO, made the announcement in Minna, Niger state.

According to the NECO chief, 59,124 candidates took the exam, with 31,316 males accounting for 52.96 percent and 27,808 females accounting for 47.03 percent.

Wushishi further stated that the number of applicants who sat for English Language is 58,012 out of which 44,162, or 76.13 percent, received Credit and above, while the number of candidates who sat for Mathematics is 57,700, with 43,096, or 74.69 percent, receiving Credit and above.

He also revealed that 33,914 candidates (57.36 percent) received five credits or more, including English Language and Mathematics.

Also, 46,825 candidates, or 79.20%, obtained five credits or higher regardless of English Language and Mathematics, he said.

On the matter of examination malpractice, he stated, “11,419 candidates were booked for various forms of malpractice in 2022, compared to 4,454 in 2021, indicating a significant increase in the number of malpractice cases.”

According to him, this is largely attributable to the monitoring officers’ improved strategy and methods.

“This resulted in the blacklisting of four supervisors, one from each of the states of Rivers and Plateau and two from the state of Ogun for aiding and abetting as well as poor supervision,” he explained.

The 2022 Senior School Certificate Examination, External, according to MySchoolGist, was administered by NECO from 21 November to 21 December 2022 and is being released 57 days later.

As was the case in 2021, Wushishi stated that a total of 29 subjects were examined during the examination.
